Pivka Poultry Opens the Plant of the Future – An Important Step for Slovenia’s Self-Sufficiency

With an Investment of Over 10 Million Euros Toward Modern, Efficient, and Sustainable Production.

On October 10, 2025, Pivka Perutninarstvo d.d. officially opened its renovated “Plant of the Future” in Kal near Pivka, marking the completion of one of the largest investments in the company’s history. The investment, valued at over 10 million euros, represents the first major renovation of its main meat production facility since 2003.

The modernization introduces state-of-the-art technological solutions, improved efficiency, higher product quality, and enhanced safety and workflow in production processes. With this project, Pivka strengthens its position as the only poultry company entirely in Slovenian ownership, reaffirming its commitment to developing the Slovenian food supply chain and preserving local brands.

Chairman of the Management Board, Mag. Janez Rebec, emphasized that the investment marks an important step in a new phase of the company’s development:

“After twenty-three years, we have thoroughly renovated the heart of our meat production. This is one of the largest investments in the company’s history and a clear sign that we are ready for a new era of development. Our true strength lies not only in machines and buildings, but in the people who prove every day that together we are a strong and united team.”

An Investment for the Future
The renovation included the construction of a new cooling tunnel, a modern cutting and filleting line, a waste heat recovery system, and new equipment for compressed air and conveyor belts. Energy efficiency and sustainability were among the key priorities of the project.

During the period 2024–2025, total investments within the Pivka–Delamaris Group amounted to 14 million euros, and over the next five years, the company plans to invest an additional 6 million euros annually.

An Opening in the Spirit of Unity and Progress

The ceremonial opening took place under the slogan “Here. Close to People. For Development. For the Future.” The event combined music, conversation, and symbolic moments, highlighted by the ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by Marko Lotrič, President of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia; Janez Rebec, Chairman of the Management Board; Aleksander Debevec, Member of the Management Board; Ernest Sokić, Head of the Investment Project; and Gordana Grlj, Employees’ Representative.

In his address, Marko Lotrič emphasized the importance of such investments for national self-sufficiency:

“Today in Pivka, we are not merely opening a renovated facility, but a new chapter of responsibility — toward people, nature, and the country. The ‘Plant of the Future’ stands as an example of an agri-food company that strengthens employment, self-sufficiency, and the competitiveness of the Slovenian economy.”

After the official ceremony, guests toured the renovated facilities and enjoyed a culinary experience curated by Jezeršek Catering, featuring dishes that combined the distinctive flavors of the Pivka and Delamaris brands.

Innovation, Awards, and New Product Development

At Pivka, the company continuously follows modern nutritional trends and focuses on the development of innovative products. One particularly successful brand is Njami, which in 2025 received four innovation awards, including the WEBSI 2025 recognition for the digital campaign “Hot Dog Around the World.”

Among this year’s new products are:

  • Njami High Protein – a line of high-protein products,
  • Dry Chicken Salami and Chicken Kulen,
  • Chicken Sausage, and new canned meals with legumes and grains.

Pivka ostaja prva in edina v Sloveniji s certifikatom »100 % Brez antibiotikov« tudi na mesnih izdelkih, kar potrjuje njihovo zavezanost kakovosti, varnosti hrane in dobremu počutju živali.

With the opening of the “Plant of the Future,” Pivka demonstrates that the future of Slovenia’s food industry is being built at home — with respect for tradition, innovation, and responsibility toward people and the environment.
